Support Services

Resettlement Work

At Gabriel House, we provide more than 'just a shelter'.

Every person who is accommodated at Gabriel House is assigned a keyworker from our on-site Resettlement Team. Living at the project means that a person ˜signs up' to a process of resettlement back into the community. The team offers housing related support to all service users. The keyworker assists individuals to identify the often complex problems that may have contributed to their homelessness, and will work with them towards the ultimate goal of more permanent accommodation.

Frequently, people we work with come to Gabriel House at crisis point. Professional intervention at the right time can have a dramatic effect on the choices people make about the present and future. We therefore work closely with statutory and voluntary organisations in Exeter, Devon and nationally, so that we can help secure the appropriate support for service users. This may include services specialising in; drug and alcohol; mental health; physical health; or learning disability support.

Whilst accommodated at Gabriel House, practical support may begin with navigating the benefits system in order to maximise the charity's income and eligibility for services. Support may then develop through to accessing skills for independent living. A keyworker will work with a service user to create their own support plan. Individuals' needs and aspirations form the focus of this. Encouragement and practical assistance is always given towards getting into training, back into education or work as well as finding creative solutions to whatever it is someone needs or wants in order to help them become more independent and better provide for themselves in the longer term.

In most cases, residents at Gabriel House can expect to move-on via referrals to medium or other supported housing options. For some there may be opportunities to move to low / floating support accommodation through the multi-agency Exeter Move-on panel and / or via the Choice -based lettings scheme.

The Mount Pleasant Projects houses are also an option, as well as access to private rented property.
